            We've officially two weeks into preseason folks. The Lions played the Chiefs in a thrilling game that ended with Jake Bates putting the metaphorical seal on him making this years 53-man roster. This weeks performance by the boys in Honolulu blue, was a much better showing from them than last week. Patrick Mahomes played two consecutive series in which the second team defense held him to 6 total points. An impressive feat, all things considered. Some of my favorite players from yesterday's game were Kindle Vildor, Sione Vaki, Isaiah Williams, Abraham Beauplan, Kaden Davis, and Khalil Dorsey. On the defensive side of the ball, Vildor and Dorsey both showed why they're worthy of a roster spot this season. Both players had multiple key tackles early in the game and Vildor especially showed out in man-to-man coverage.         The first game of the NFL (pre)season is officially in the books! As a Lions fan however, it was not the start we were all hoping for. A 14-3 loss to the Giants is definitely not how our we envisioned our Super Bowl running beginning. Despite the loss, there were some highlights worth mentioning- Sione Vaki looks like he'll be a formidable backup and may even see some work deep in a game. He's shifty, explosive, and stands out alongside Montgomery and Gibbs in a crowded RB room. Hendon Hooker looks to be in great form as well, despite not having a touchdown to show for it. My personal favorite player from Thursday night was Brodric Martin, who finished with 4 total tackles and 2 pass deflections. He was all over the field and always seemed to be in the middle of any tackle. Kindle Vildor also had a quietly good game, he'll be seeing an increased role this season as teammate Emmanuel Moseley (who plays nickel) is now confirmed to be out for a significant ...

          Since 1967, the Super Bowl has been the most coveted prize in the National Football League. The Detroit Lions are one of four teams that have never been to one. Having been established in 1930, the Lions are the oldest franchise to have never stepped in a football stadium on Super Bowl sunday (I'm not counting those 4 league championships we won before that).            I know I brought that up in my last blog, however I think it's important to note. It emphasizes how special this team is this year. We're 7-2 on the season, with losses against the Seahawks in OT and the Ravens on the road. Our offense is second in total yards per game and the defense is giving up the ninth least total yards per game. A lot of our success has been without CJ Gardner-Johnson, David Montgomery, James Houston, Emmanuel Moseley, and more.           As a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, you learn to be wildly pessimistic. Since the year 2000, we've had six winning seasons. Over that span, we made the playoffs three times, and lost in the wild card game each time (I'm still upset about 2014). We've never made it to a Super Bowl. We have a history of being mediocre. Actually, mediocre is being polite. We've sucked, for a long time.            I'm not going to lie, if you would have told me that we would be 4-1 this time last year, I would have called you crazy.
