Christmas In April: 2025 NFL Draft Plan for the Detroit Lions

Image
We're officially back, Ladies and Gents! It's Draft Day. This has been an incredibly long offseason for the Honolulu Blue faithful, as we've seen a number of storylines unfold. Both of our team coordinators left, players like Carlton Davis III signed elsewhere, and other NFC opponents got stronger. However, I think people may have forgotten - we're the Detroit MF'n Lions, and that means something now. Our entire roster was decimated for most of the season, and we still managed to win the NFC North.          Despite last season's success though, there's always work to be done. This season has already presented a new list of challenges. This list would include finding a starting Guard, to replace Kevin Zeitler. We also must add an additional edge rusher, regardless if there is a reunion between the Lions and Za'Darius Smith. Frank Ragnow is also getting older, which means he'll need to be replaced in the near future. The list goes on an...

Addressing The Elephant In The Room

Image
When you think of the current day Detroit Lions, what comes to mind? A high-powered offense, kneecaps being taken, Ja-red Goff… Ja-red Goff…, and the best offensive line in the league. Bully ball is engrained into the DNA of the Lions, and for good reason. Brad Holmes has spent the last few years assembling the trenches of nightmares for defensive coordinators across the league. However, there is a glaring red flag on this formidable offense that could continue to get in the way of the team chasing a Super Bowl. His name? Graham Glasgow.  The former Wolverine was selected in the 3rd round of the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions and has spent the majority of his career in Detroit. After a brief stint in Denver, Brad Holmes signed the veteran lineman in 2023 to a 3-year, $20,000,000 deal. Which at the time, was warranted. At Right Guard, Glasgow was playing at an All-Pro level. In 2023, he had a 82.1 run block grade according to PFF.com and a 75.1 offensive grade....

The Ben Johnson Era Is Officially Over

Image
About a month ago, I started writing an article about where Ben Johnson would most likely end up after the Lions season had concluded. The premise was going to be to look at all of the potential options that were in question, cross-referencing everything that Ben had mentioned he wanted in a Head Coaching position from the past two years, then make a prediction about what decision he would make.  As of 2:33pm CST, per Adam Schefter , Ben Johnson is going to the Bears.           Devastated. Grateful. Pessimistic. Sympathetic. All of these words, and more, describe the feelings of every Lions fan right now. Not even 48 hours after the season-ending loss to the Commanders, Ben Johnson is on his way to Chicago with " a star-studded coaching staff " around him.            It's hard not to be angry at the man who's been such an integral part of the offenses success over the past two years. Truthfull...

With Jamo Suspended, Who's The Next Man Up?

Image
Late on Monday night, Eric Woodward broke the news on twitter (it's not X) that Jameson Williams would (most likely) be suspended for the next two games for violating the NFL's Performance Enhancing Substances policy. Per the policy, a two-game suspension is a result of a positive test for a stimulant, diuretic, or masking agent for a first time offender. If the suspension is a six-game suspension, then it would likely be for an anabolic agent.          This couldn't have happened at a more inconvenient time in the season for the Lions. Coming off a huge divisional win against the Vikings, after losing the DPOY in Aidan Hutchinson to a season-ending injury in their game prior against the Cowboys, tragedy strikes again. Ok, I may be exaggerating a bit here, but still. Jameson Williams has put so much work in this off-season to solidify his spot as WR2 for the Lions, only to have his third straight season with off-the-field issues ...

Jared Goff Is Top Three (and He's Not Two or Three)

Image
We're seven weeks into the NFL season and it's time for a Jared Thomas Goff appreciation post. The 30-year-old from Novato, California is currently playing some of the best football in his entire career. At this point in the season, Goff is currently 2nd in Completion Percentage (73.6%), 3rd in Passing Yards per Game (268.3), 6th in Passing Touchdowns (10 in 6 games), 1st in Passer Rating (111.5), with only 4 Interceptions and 2 Game Winning Drives. He is currently on pace to finish his 9th season with 4,561.1 Passing Yards and 28+ Passing Touchdowns, both of which wouldn't even eclipse his best seasons to date. Point is - Jared Goff is playing some damn good football right now.            There's an awesome stat going around right now on social media that highlights the fact that over the past three games, Goff has posted a 140+ passer rating, a feat which only three other QB's in NFL history have done - Rodgers...

The Jake Bates Show: Preseason Game 2 Recap

Image
We've officially two weeks into preseason folks. The Lions played the Chiefs in a thrilling game that ended with Jake Bates putting the metaphorical seal on him making this years 53-man roster. This weeks performance by the boys in Honolulu blue, was a much better showing from them than last week. Patrick Mahomes played two consecutive series in which the second team defense held him to 6 total points. An impressive feat, all things considered. Some of my favorite players from yesterday's game were Kindle Vildor, Sione Vaki, Isaiah Williams, Abraham Beauplan, Kaden Davis, and Khalil Dorsey. On the defensive side of the ball, Vildor and Dorsey both showed why they're worthy of a roster spot this season. Both players had multiple key tackles early in the game and Vildor especially showed out in man-to-man coverage. On the offensive side of the field, Vaki played well and showed why he would be an asset on 3rd down situations. Kaden Davis may ...

More Questions, Less Answers: Preseason Game 1 Recap

Image
The first game of the NFL (pre)season is officially in the books! As a Lions fan however, it was not the start we were all hoping for. A 14-3 loss to the Giants is definitely not how our we envisioned our Super Bowl running beginning. Despite the loss, there were some highlights worth mentioning- Sione Vaki looks like he'll be a formidable backup and may even see some work deep in a game. He's shifty, explosive, and stands out alongside Montgomery and Gibbs in a crowded RB room. Hendon Hooker looks to be in great form as well, despite not having a touchdown to show for it. My personal favorite player from Thursday night was Brodric Martin, who finished with 4 total tackles and 2 pass deflections. He was all over the field and always seemed to be in the middle of any tackle. Kindle Vildor also had a quietly good game, he'll be seeing an increased role this season as teammate Emmanuel Moseley (who plays nickel) is now confirmed to be out for a significant ...
